Few medical doctors are innovators. But the rest drive the progress in the field. I am inspired to follow this second side of the demanding medical profession.

Dimitar Tonev, MD, PhD, is a consultant in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Intesive Care, University Hospital "Tsaritsa Yoanna - ISUL", Sofia, Bulgaria. He is also a faculty member at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Faculty of Medicine, Medical University, Sofia, Bulgaria.

During his senior high school studies, he decided to become a medical doctor to help people in an exciting, challenging, and gifted way and has now been dedicated to the medical profession for more than 35 years.

Tonev’s study introduces the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification as a valuable prognostic factor, aiding in decision-making for the management of painful bone metastases within a multidisciplinary framework.

More than 70% of patients with bone metastases experience extremely high pain. For this reason, the search for better solutions to relieve pain syndromes has an extremely important place in modern anesthesiology and pain control.

The findings of our study highlight the importance of determining optimal doses, particularly in high-risk patients, providing valuable insights in understanding pain management strategies for hospitalized cancer patients.

In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family, take trips in the open air, travel abroad, or play the piano to recharge his batteries.
