The possibility of lifelong learning and developing one's skills combined with diagnostic and curative aspects of everyday clinical work still makes me glad that I chose medicine.
Ivana Trivić Mažuranić, MD, began her residency in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital Zagreb in 2021. As her mother is a doctor, she has been exposed to medicine since an early age but made the decision to study medicine just before high school graduation.
Trivić Mažuranić completed her studies at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb in 2016. From February 2018 until February 2021, she worked as a research assistant at the Referral Centre for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children's Hospital Zagreb.
She has been very fortunate to be surrounded by hardworking, clever, and imaginative colleagues and brilliant mentors who guided her to do better every day. This has led her to publish several papers in indexed journals and has actively participated in both national and international science conferences.
In the research she submitted to the Awards she and her team show that children and adolescents with chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease can have real-life benefits from a free and easy to follow home-based exercise program.
The benefits of home-based exercise program include better body composition associated with long-term wellness and longevity, as well as improved sleep quality and possibly better disease control. We hope that physical activity will be recognized as a valuable addition to standardized medical therapy.
During long and hard days, she is grateful for the support of her husband, family, and colleagues. She also loves travelling and finds that new experiences give her energy to continue working.
